What makes Illinois unique?
Illinois provides a truly authentic American experience.  Start in Chicago, a world-class destination with its stunning architecture, endless shopping, renowned museums and fun nightlife.
Take a drive on Route 66, America’s legendary byway and discover nostalgic attractions and friendly small towns.
Explore the great outdoors from the Mississippi River Country to quaint river towns.  Sample local wines, take a culinary tour and discover chic boutiques and outlet malls.
Illinois provides mile after mile of fun for families, couples, groups and adventurers.

What is the ‘hot spot’ for 2015?
The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois will celebrate ten years in 2015, marking the milestone with a full year of special events, theater presentations, lectures and exhibits. The celebrations coincide with 150th anniversary of the end of U.S. Civil War and Lincoln’s death.  ALPLM rated top 25 Best Museums in TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2014. www.TenYearsLincoln.com and www.visitspringfieldillinois.com.

Where is your favourite, off the beaten track, location?
Galena is one of the most romantic small towns in America.  It looks much as it did during the time of the Civil War, although now the historic red brick buildings are home to charming boutiques, art galleries and restaurants. Galena is also known for its cozy lodgings, with quaint bed and breakfasts dotting the picturesque hillsides surrounding the town.

What is your top tip for people travelling to Illinois for the first time?
For the jet-set, turning Chicago in to a long weekend of four days is definitely doable. But, really, you should reserve a week to 10 days to experience all that the city and the state have to offer.
A week gives you the chance to see the sights in Chicago and head out of town to explore more of the state – like starting the classic American road trip west on Route 66, which begins in Chicago, or see the heart of the real America in family-friendly towns like Rockford and Starved Rock, or getting to know more about the President who shaped American history in Springfield.

Recommend an incredible place to stay.
At Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa go golfing on one of four championship courses, horseback riding along hilly wooded trails, boating on the sapphire waters of Lake Galena, or soaring over the countryside in a hot air balloon with Galena on the Fly. Relax in the luxury of the resort’s Stonedrift Spa with a pampering massage. Eagle Ridge offers a wide variety of lodging that ranges from traditional inn rooms to golf villas and distinctive homes.
