John Davies, Map Collector, Editor & Author

Cartographic expert John Davies is co-author of The Red Atlas. It is the story of how, during the Cold War, the Soviet Union carried out a cartographic project of unprecedented scale – the detailed mapping of the entire world. Just as fascinating as the story of the maps during Soviet times, is their role in the post-Soviet world, as the only reliable mapping in existence in many parts of the world and its value to explorers, scientists and even the military of the Western alliances.

John DaviesJohn Davies and Alexander Kent will be talking about The Red Atlas: How Russia Secretly Mapped the World on Sunday 4th February at 11am. After the event, John be signing copies of his latest book at the 'Signings at Stanfords' stand.
